The guided walk Vanished Without Trace: Mile End runs Sunday 25th Sept at 11am. It starts from just behind William Hill’s shop, a bit to the left as you come out of Mile End tube, and costs just £5 per person.
There were some very talented people working around here; philanthropists, silversmiths and trade union leaders. The walk also features stories of gangsters, horticulturalists, a mad inventor and a crazed tyrannical monarch.
Not much of the past survives on the streets here, but there are some clues. I’ll be bringing some of my research papers out with me – copies of court documents, photos and old maps to show you Mile End’s hidden past. Join me if you can. There’s no need to book, just turn up.
The weather forecast is for rain overnight, but by the time the walk starts it should have cleared.
