Tunnel: The Archaeology of Crossrail has just opened at the Museum of London Docklands Museum. It’s free, open 7 days 10-6, and beside West India Quay DLR station.
The exhibition has been well kitted out for children, but it is really interesting for adults too. There’s whole piles of stuff to see, ranging from Roman sandals to the skeleton of a plague victim. I saw this Victorian this quart measure which is inscribed with “G Kent/Albion/Old Ford”. They say it refers to a public house on Old Ford Road. I can’t see it in the 1870s Post Office Directories, but there was an Albion on St Paul’s Way.
This exhibition is well worth a visit.
